7 - Day Cape To Addo

Day 1: Whale Route, Hermanus, Birkenhead Brewery, Cape Agulhas and Boat Cruise Departing Cape Town at 8:30am our exciting journey begins today as we join the world famous whale route in Gordons Bay for a stunning drive along the picturesque R44 mountain pass overlooking False Bay to the vibrant coastal town of Hermanus. After an opportunity to take some photographs and a visit to the old whaling station, we continue to Birkenhead Brewery to sample some fine beers before moving on to the southernmost tip of Africa in Cape Agulhas National Park. After a visit to the lookout point and a nearby shipwreck we make our way to the harbour in Struisbaai where we embark on a 2hr whale and dolphin-watching boat cruise off Die Plaat, the longest beach in the Southern Hemisphere.
This day is designed to be a relaxing one for you to get to know your fellow travelers, to get used to traveling in our vehicle and to settle into the comfortable routine of life on tour.

Optional Activities: Horse ride on the longest beach in the Southern Hemisphere (R150 for 2hours). Day 2:Tradouws Pass, The Little Karoo, Ronnies and Warmwaterberg Hot Springs
After a leisurely breakfast, this morning we head north through rolling wheatfields toSwellendam where we enter the little Karoo through the beautiful Tradouws Pass. Shortly after Barrydale on the famous Route 62 we stop for a refreshing drink and lunch at Ronnies “Sex” Shop; an interesting; and now famous, pub and restaurant bearing no actual resemblance to a sex shop other than the hundreds of signed items of underwear donated by international travellers. You’re welcome to leave your mark!
After Ronnies we make our way to our accommodation for the night in Warmwaterberg Spa and Hot Springs. Surrounded by the Langeberg Mountains and the wide-open space of the little Karoo, after a sunset walk in this pristene environment tonight we enjoy a few drinks while relaxing in 43-degree natural spring water under a canopy of stars.

Day 3: Route 62, Oudtshoorn, Cango Caves and the Cango Endangered Wildlife Ranch
Today we take a leisurely drive through Ladysmith and Carlitzdorp to the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn situated in a beautiful valley between the Outeniqua and Swartberg Mountains. After time to relax and a swim at our accommodation we’ll head off for the magnificent Cango Caves. One of the great wonders of the natural world, here we’ll take an enchanting guided tour of the caves to view a wonderland of stalactite and stalagmite formations millions of years old. After the caves you will go on a guided tour of the Cango Wildlife Ranch where you’ll have the opportunity to pet cheetah and white lion as well as view jaguar, white Bengal tiger, pygmy hippo and many other rare and endangered animals. There is even an option available to cage dive with crocodiles!

R135 including photos R135 including photos R300 including photos Day 4: Addo Elephant National Park, The Sundays River and Game Driving This morning we leave the Karoo and head east again along the Baviaanskloof Mountains for the dense valley bushveld of the Sundays River and our destination for today, the great Addo Elephant National Park. Proclaimed in 1931 this malaria free 145 000 ha park is home to the densest African Elephant population on earth totalling over 450 elephant. It is also famous for being the only park in Africa playing host to the Big 7 ie: Elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard, the Southern Right Whale and the Great White Shark. After lunch en-route and time to relax at our accommodation we’ll spend the afternoon game driving in the park then have dinner at the park restaurant before returning in the evening to enjoy a few drinks around a roaring campfire. Here on the banks of the Sundays River the African Fish Eagle’s call heralds each new dawn... this is wild Africa at her enigmatic best.

Day 5: Jeffreys Bay, Tsitsikamma Park, Storms River Bridge and optional activities
After breakfast, this morning we head south for the cool waters and pristene beaches of the mighty IndianOcean where our safari joins the aptly named Garden Route for the first time at Jeffreys Bay. Renowned the world over as one of the best surfing waves on the planet we’ll take time out to view the waves at “supertubes” before visiting the ever-popular Billabong Factory Shop. After lunch at Jeffrey’s we make our way along the N2 to the stunningly beautiful Tsitsikamma National Park and our accommodation for the night in the Storms River Adventure Village. This afternoon is free for you to sample some of the many adventure activities on offer in the area.
In the late afternoon we visit the Tsitsikamma National Park where a short 2km hike through dense indiginous forest brings us to the mouth of the Storms River for a walk across the longest hanging bridge in the Southern Hemisphere.

After breakfast we take a leisurely drive to Bloukrans Bridge, at a height of 216m this is the site of the highest bungi jump in the world, for those wishing to take the leap, this is your opportunity!! After the bungi there is an option to walk, feed and ride an African elephant at the Tsitsikamma Elephant Santuary for a wonderful close encounter experience. This afternoon we take a leisurely drive down the Garden Route paying a visit to the captivating scenery surrounding the Knysna Heads estuary as well as stopping for a few hours sun-tanning and swimming in the Indian Ocean on Wilderness beach.
Tonight we overnight in Mossel Bay, a small habour town with a big heart, the town boasts 24km of long, sandy beaches and an even longer history. It was here that Bartholomeu Dias, the first European navigator to round the cape, landed in1488.
As it is our last evening together on safari, tonight we toast our shared adventures on tour around a roaring fire.
